Haines Hunter SE725 - Refining a Flagship
The Haines Hunter SE725 has long sat at the top of the Haines Hunter line-up, and it’s just had a thoughtful round of upgrades that further sharpen its position as a true premium hardtop.
Recently featured in the April edition of Boating New Zealand, the latest refinements to the SE725 focus on what matters most: real-world usability, comfort, and fishability.
Built from many years of experience building boats
What stands out in these updates is where they’ve come from. Many of the changes are driven by customer feedback, alongside insights and innovation from the team at Haines Hunter- people who not only build these boats, but actively use them.
It’s a practical approach that shows in the detail.
Smarter, Safer at the Transom
One of the most noticeable upgrades is at the transom, with the addition of new swimstep cages and a drop-down boarding gate that becomes the ladder.

This removes the need for the traditional boarding ladder setup and creates a far more usable space - whether you’re stepping aboard, gearing up for a dive, or managing fish at the back of the boat. The cage design also allows you to brace safely while standing on the swimstep, a small change that makes a big difference on the water.
Refined for Fishing and Function
Inside the cockpit, versatility is a clear theme. A clever interchangeable module system allows for either a rod rack (holding up to three rigged setups) or a rear-facing seat - easily swapped or removed depending on how you’re using the boat that day.

A new cockpit-mounted Simrad display adds another layer of usability, giving anglers direct access to key information without needing to step forward to the helm. It works seamlessly alongside the main 16-inch display, either mirroring data or running independently.
The glass folding doors and electric windows secure the sedan cabin while also opening to let in fresh air and create a sociable feel.
The electric freezer acts as a seat, and when you remove the cushions from the rear seats, the fishbins slide under the aft deck, creating a large open cockpit.
Comfort Without Compromise
The SE725 has always balanced capability with comfort, and the latest updates lean further into that space.
A hot freshwater cockpit shower, powered by an Eberspacher diesel heating system, adds real practicality for divers and swimmers. At the same time, the heating system keeps the forward and sedan cabins warm while helping manage condensation, making the boat far more usable across all seasons.
Additional touches like a drawer fridge, sink unit and two-burner cooktop, upgraded interior finishes, and refined storage solutions all contribute to a more polished onboard experience.
Continuing to Raise the Bar
Some of the upgrades are subtle - improved trim finishes, automotive-style window detailing, and the integration of C-Zone digital switching - but together they lift the overall feel of the boat, reinforcing the SE725’s place as a premium offering.
These aren’t changes for the sake of it. They’re incremental improvements that make a real difference in how the boat performs and feels day to day.
